P2 Tenses

Write the correct form of the verbs in the box. Make sure you don't include capital letters if you don't need it.

I love hiking.

We use the -ing form of the verb after words such as like/love/hate.

Every Sunday, my parents and I wake up early and we go hiking together.

When you do something as a habit, such as every day, every morning, every Monday... We use the simple present tense.

It is a quarter to eleven in the morning.

'Be' is the base form of the word 'is'. When we use the simple present tense, we use 'is' for third person singular (e.g. it). We use 'are' for plural (e.g. they).

We are resting under a tree on a hill now.

We use the continuous form (be + verb+ing) when we see the word 'now'.

Look! A butterfly is dancing around the flowers next to me!

We use the continuous tense when we see the word 'look' too. This time, we use 'is dancing' because 'a butterfly' is an 'it', which is the third person singular. 'Dancing' has no 'e'.

My father gets the food out from his backpack for us. My mother sings me a song.

'My mother' is a 'she'. For 'she', we need to add an 's' to 'sing'

My mother is really good at singing! She is like a singer you can see in shows on the television!

We use the base form of the verb after words such as 'can' and 'must'.

I think I'm going to fall asleep now... The music is so nice...

We use the base form of the verb after 'to'.
