patří mezi modální slovesa (can, should, must, etc.), která mají stejná pravidla tvoření

Modal verbs (modální slovesa)

• ve 3. os. č. j. (he, she, it) nepřidáváme koncové -s

• další navazující sloveso přidáváme bez "to" v infinitivu

• otázku tvoříme tzv. inverzí (prohozením) Should I ....?

• zápor tvoříme za pomoci záporky not – I shouldn’t = I should not

Použití:

1. Rady (doporučení)

Používáme tehdy, pokud chceme někomu poradit, že by něco měl dělat nebo nedělat.

2. Povinnosti

povinnosti nejsou tak silné jako u slovesa must

Examples:

She is very angry with you. You shouldn’t call her now. (Je na tebe hodně naštvaná. Neměl bys jí teď volat.)

You look tired. You should go to bed. (Vypadáš unaveně. Měl bys jít spát.)

It’s too dangerous. You shouldn’t go there! (Je to příliš nebezpečné. Neměl bys tam chodit!)

You shouldn’t speak during the test. (Neměl bys mluvit během testu.)

I should train more. There is a match tomorrow. (Měl bych trénovat více. Zítra je zápas)

You should listen to his doctor. (Měl bys poslouchat svého doktora.)

He shouldn't eat so many sweets. (Neměl by jíst tak mnoho sladkostí.)
