Functions

A function is a rule that assigns to each value of one quantity a single value of a second quantity.

Examples of Non-Functions

• Number of minutes spent studying and grade: two students can spend 60 minutes studying and get different grades

• Age and height: two people the same age can be different height

• What are some other examples we can think of?

Another way to describe functions:

A function is a relationship between a set of inputs and another set of outputs such that each input corresponds to one and only one output.
