CHALLENGE
Given the endpoint and the midpoint of the following line segment, What will be the starting point, and how will we get it?
*Discuss with your mates.
*Use your whiteboard to brainstorm
10
Rest. Your. Mind.
Before moving to Classify polygons and finding the missing vertex.
on your seat silently feel free to rest your mind from thinking for 5 mins so we can move on!
11
Using coordinate geometry to Classify Polygons.
The word polygon comes from Greek πολύγωνον (polygōnon)
meaning "many-angled".
12
13
Graph a figure with the coordinates A(−4,3) B(2,3) C(2,−1) D(−4,−1)
. When finished, name the figure that has been drawn on the grid.
14
How?
Next, in order to determine what kind of shape it is, first count the number of vertices.
This figure has four, so it is one of the four-sided shapes.
Then, look to see how many of the sides are equal.
In this case, side AB=DC and AD=BC. Since there are two sets of equal sides, this is either a rectangle or a parallelogram.
Finally, check the angles.
In this shape, the angles are right angles, so this is a rectangle.
15
Multiple Choice
Given the following points:
A(-3,3), B(2,1), C(-2,1)
What is the most specific name for the polygon?
Right Angle Triangle
Acute Isosceles Triangle
Rectangle
Parallelogram
16
Multiple Choice
What type of Polygon the following points represent?
D(-4,3), E(4,3), F(4,-3), G(-4,-3)
Graph on your notes then answer.
Square
Parallelogram
Rectangle
Trapezoid
17
Multiple Choice
ΔABC Has a right angle at B and AB = 4.
Find the missing Vertex.
*(In other words: What point will make the figure a correct right angle)
(3,5)
(2,5)
(5,3)
(1,4)
