• In German, we have to imagine that every sentence is like a street.

• Every word type must live in a house.

• In German, the verb ALWAYS lives in House Number 2. The other words can swap around houses a bit, but the verb is always in No. 2

• When we start looking at introducing time phrases (e.g. am Freitag, abends, jeden Tag), they can go in two houses... either No. 1 or No.3

• WHY CAN'T THEY LIVE IN NO. 2?

BECAUSE THE VERB IS A GRUMPY OLD MAN WHO WILL NEVER MOVE FROM NO. 2!
