2

Principal 1: Plan Ahead and Prepare

Have a plan and pack only the essentials. Become familiar with the terrain and the abilities of all the campers/hikers. Also remember to know the forecast for the upcoming day(s) on your trip. It's good to know if it will be rainy or stormy.

3

Principal 2: Travel & Camp on Durable Surfaces

It's important to camp on durable surfaces like stone and rock in order to be sure your campsite lasts. Stay away from camping near rushing and or running water. It's also best to camp in a place not visible to many people.

4

Principle 3: Dispose of Waste Properly

It's important to dispose of garbage and recyclable waste properly in order to prevent pollution in our water and air. So much waste ends up in our oceans and makes disgusting drinking water.

5

Principle 4: Leave What You Find

It's important to not take things from the wildlife. You might see a pretty rock for your collection or a flower that you want to take home. Unfortunately, these belong to the woods and taking them could disrupt a delicate ecosystem.

6

Principle 5: Minimize Campfire Impacts

Campfires have always been known to campers, but they cause more trees to be chopped down for firewood. Luckily, there is an alternative. Stoves can operate in almost all weather conditions, (unlike campfires which go out in the rain) and they leave no trace.

7

Principle 6: Respect Wildlife

Only learn and study wildlife from a distance. Loud noises and sudden movements can startle animals and be stressful for them. (There is an exception for bears who can be hostile to creatures that are quiet and still.)

8

Principle 7: Be Considerate of Other Visitors

When in the outdoors be sure to remember that you are not alone and there are others enjoying the space. Many people come to the outdoors to listen to nature. Too much noise and uncontrolled pets can be disruptive and unkind.
