World Hearing Day
We rely on our hearing for a number of reasons-but what about those who don't?
2
World Hearing Day-Why is it celebrated?
World Hearing Day is a campaign held annually by Office of Prevention of Blindness and Deafness of the World Health Organization.
Activities take place across the globe and an event is hosted at the World Health Organization on March 3.
The theme for World Hearing Day 2021 is Hearing Care for All.
World Hearing Day is also celebrated to increase awareness about the problems or symptoms faced by those who suffer from hearing loss or hearing impairment and what measures we can take to prevent it.
3
Why do we need to hear?
Hearing allows us to communicate with others verbally, listen to music, be more alert to sounds or warnings around us, we even use our hearing to laugh!
4
But... if we use our hearing to do all those things, how do people who have hearing loss or hearing impairments do them?
They are just as capable and talented at doing all those things as we are :) Here are some of the ways those who have hearing loss or hearing impairment listen and respond
5
Direct Communication
Sign language and lip reading
Some also communicate verbally if they haven't had hearing loss since birth :)
6
Music
They can feel the vibrations around them or through their feet on the floor to be able listen and perform to the beat
Listening to music isn't just about hearing with your ears :)
