G4 T3 L1 Week of March 8

Objective: I can describe how does a wave move.

Slide image

2

Do Now

1- The distance between two similar points in a wave, this best describes (amplitude/wavelength)

2- The number of wave repetitions in a certain amount of time, this best describes (frequency/amplitude)

3- Lightwave needs a medium to travel (True / False ).

4- Define Amplitude.

4

Transverse wave

A wave that is moving perpendicular to the particle's motion.

The crest is the high point and the Trough is the low point.

5

Longitudinal wave:

the wave that moves in the same direction as the particles.

Longitudinal wave compress and expand as they move.

Notebook activity

1-Answer the question in the picture.

2- What is the difference between the transverse wave and the longitudinal wave?

G4 T3 L1 (Properties of Waves)

Objective: I can describe how energy moves through a wave.

Slide image

8

Do Now

1- When the wave movement is perpendicular to the movement of particles (transverse/longitudinal) Wave

2- the greatest height of the wave from its rest position, this best describes (wavelength/amplitude).

3- the lowest part of a wave is called (crest/trough).

4- Define Wavelength.

9

Wave Energy

Waves are a transfer of energy.

If you send a wave along with a spring, you will see the coils move back and forth.

The coil return to its original position after the wave has passed.

Transfer:

To change or move from one object to another.

Waves transfer energy through a medium but don't transfer the medium particles.

Wave Energy

That's why an anchored boats move up and down when waves passed under them, they are not pushed to the shore.

Notebook activity

Draw in your notebook Wave Q and S

1- Label wave crests, wavelength, and amplitude

2- which one has high frequency?

3-Which one has the highest amplitude ( Q or S)?
