ENGLISH FORM 1 - READING SKILL
Let's experiment - NTB (week 7 lesson 20

2
Read and understand the text.
Robots teaching our youth? Yes, you have heard it right. It has been found that robots have positive effects on children with disabilities such as autism and attention deficit disorder. A study was conducted in Korea in 2010 on Engkey, the robotic teaching assistant. Engkey was found to be able to help children focus on lessons. This is a task that most teachers find challenging but Engkey does just that.
More recently, developed robotic teaching assistant like NAO and MILO robot have since replaced engkey.
3
NAO, two feet tall robotic teaching assistant resemble a toy. It does not have facial expression. NAO can improve the child's ability to focus and interact with others. The use of robotic teaching assistant helps the special children recognise specific emotions. This helps them gain confidence to socialise and talk to other people. Children who utilise NAO eventually joins the children in the mainstream classes.
4
MILO, the robotics teaching assistant is also made to help children with disorders to socialize. Unlike NAO, who has a plain, robotic face, MILO looks like a kid with spiky hair. MILO has facial expression that help children learn to recognise them. Cameras in MILO's eyes record the children reactions.
5
This helps the teachers, parents and doctors to better understand these children. These robots as educational tools are great but their price tags are less so.
