Suffixes are parts of words added to the end of a word.

Suffixes alter the meaning of a word.

The suffix -s or -es

  • makes a noun plural

  • means more than one

  • For example:

  • A fox is a a wild animal closely related to the wolf.

  • Adding the suffix -es make fox plural. Foxes means more than one fox.

  • River becomes rivers when you add an -s. This is now a plural noun.
