What is climate?
6
Climate
Climate is the long-term average of weather, typically averaged over a period of 30 years. More rigorously, it denotes the mean and variability of meteorological variables over a time spanning from months to millions of years
7
Multiple Select
Climate is the _________average of weather, typically averaged over a period of 30 years
long-term
short-term
8
What affects climate?
Our climate depends on how much of the Sun's energy is retained in the land, sea and air. The primary driver of the Earth's climate is energy from the Sun. This is the "Greenhouse Effect", and it warms the Earth like a blanket. ...

Multiple Select
Our climate depends on how much of the Sun's _________is retained in the land, sea and air
energy
heat
light
cycle
10
Importance of climate
Climate can determine a lot of things, but it especially determines what kind of plants and animals can live in an area. For example, polar bears need a cold climate. They would be terribly hot and would die quickly in the desert. When climates start to change, animals and plants become endangered.
11
Climate is different than weather. Weather is changes in the atmosphere that occur on a daily basis. The weather we experience today could be completely different than the weather we have tomorrow.
Climate is a pattern of weather that occurs over a long time such as years and centuries. For example, the climate in an area could be dry in that it rarely rains there. However, on days when it does rain, the weather is rainy for that day. The climate doesn't change, it's still a dry climate.

What is GREEN HOUSE effect?
The greenhouse effect is a natural process that ______the Earth's surface.
warms
cools
melts
13
What are seasons?
A season is a division of the year based on changes in weather, ecology, and the number of daylight hours in a given region. On Earth, seasons are the result of Earth's orbit around the Sun and Earth's axial tilt relative to the ecliptic plane.
14
Why do seasons occur?
Seasons are caused because of the Earth's changing relationship to the Sun. The Earth travels around the Sun, called an orbit, once a year or every 365 days. As the Earth orbits the Sun, the amount of sunlight each location on the planet gets every day changes slightly. This change causes the seasons.

16
The Earth is Tilted
Not only does the Earth revolve around the Sun every year, but the Earth rotates on its axis every 24 hours. This is what we call a day. However, the Earth doesn't rotate in a straight up and down manner relative to the Sun. It is slightly tilted. In scientific terms, the Earth is tilted 23.5 degrees from its orbital plane with the Sun.
17
Fill in the Blank
Why is the earth tilt very important?

Precipitation
In meteorology, precipitation is any product of the condensation of atmospheric water vapor that falls under gravitational pull from clouds. The main forms of precipitation include drizzling, rain, sleet, snow, ice pellets, graupel and hai
