Why is ear wax important?

Middle

  • The middle ear contains three tiny bones, called the Ossicles.

    hammer/anvil/stirrup

  • They are the smallest bones in the human body, designed to transfer vibrations from the eardrum to the cochlea.

  • Eustachian Tube extend from the middle ear to the back of your throat. They help remove fluid and balance pressure on your ear drum

Inner

  • Cochlea is filled with fluid and hair cells. When vibrations enter, the hair picks them up, vibrate and create and electric signal.

  • The cochlea changes the vibrations into electrical signals that the brain can use. If damanged can cause hearing loss

  • The auditory nerve collects the electric signals and sends them to the brain. They are interpreted and assigned meaning, so you can hear a sound.

  • The semicircular canals are filled with fluid and are part of our balance system. When the fluid is disturbed you feel dizzy.
