Background

Ibn Jurayj reported: Abu Sufyan was in the habit of slaughtering two camels every week. On one occasion, an orphan came to him begging for a piece of flesh.

Abu Sufyan responded by hitting him with a stick. And so Allah (SWT) revealed this surah.

The surah was revealed to inform Muslims about:

The way to stay on the right path

What it means to be a true Muslim

Earning from noble ways

5

Prime Objective

Core Teachings

How one prays = Huqooq-al-Allah

How one gives = Huqooq-al-Ibad

Character of those who claim they are Muslims but are oblivious of the Hereafter

Meaning that somebody who prays five times salah but does not help the needy and oppresses the orphans is not a complete and good Muslim and vice versa.

6

People who do not believe in the Hereafter

Pushing away or torturing orphans means that that person is not afraid of the Day of Judgement

It is a crime against humanity to treat orphans badly

Allah comes to the defence of orphans

Treating orphans in a wrong way and depriving them of their rights (father's properties) etc.

Neglectful to their salah

Repelling the orphans

Do not feed the needy

The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said, "The best of the houses is the house where an orphan gets love and kindness."

8

Meaning of 'deen'

One means 'religion of Islam' and the other 'payback'

Our deeds irrespective of what we do will be paid back on the Day of Judgement

Small deeds are important

People who refuse to give even the smallest help are described as 'Al-Maa'un' in the surah.

9

Benefits

The Prophet (SAW) narrated that,

ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤAllah will forgive the sins of whoever recites it, and he will be regarded as having paid his Zakat
