Third-person singular rules (he/she/it)

  • General rule: verb + s - ex. work/works; run/runs; live/lives.

  • Verbs ending in vowel + y: verb + s - ex. buy/buys; enjoy/enjoys.

  • Verbs ending in ch, o, sh, ss, x, z,: verb + es - ex. match/matches, go/goes; wash/washes; mess/messes; mix/mixes; frizz/frizzes.

  • Verbs ending in consonant + y: verb + ies - ex. fly/flies; study/studies; try/tries; reply/replies.
