Autobiography
An autobiography (also informally called an autobio) is a self-written account of the life of oneself.
An informal bio is designed to tell readers briefly about your interests and who you are.
3
How to Write a Short Autobiography
A short autobiography is an opportunity to give readers a capsule summary of who you are and what you have accomplished.
4
What is the format of autobiography?
The most accepted format for an autobiography is chronological. This means writing the life story in the order in which it happened. One starts with a bit of background of parents and family, and proceeds from the time of one's birth.
5
Brainstorm
Brainstorm some of the elements you would like to talk about in your informal personal biography. Include major themes like relevant work experience, education, achievements (such as published books, magazine articles, art shows) and one or two interesting facts about yourself and your life. Write out as many ideas as possible while you are brainstorming.
6
Tell Your Story
Make a list of personal facts about yourself such as when and where you were born, where you went to school, who your mentors were, what events shaped your career decisions and whether you are married and have children.
7
If there were particular hardships in your life, notable ancestors in your family tree or interesting sports and hobbies that captured your attention, make a note of these as well.
8
Describe our Credentials
Describe your educational credentials and course of study, special skills and licenses acquired, and a short overview of some of the significant positions you have held. In a separate paragraph, reference any awards you have achieved, travels that have broadened your opinions and volunteer activities that have enriched your life
9
Mention Your Future Goals
Conclude your autobiography with a brief discussion of what you are doing now and what your goals are for the future. This paragraph may also include a favorite quote or a philosophical observation about what you have learned thus far on your life's journey.
10
Get a Sense Check
Invite someone who isn't familiar with your life story to read your first draft and make recommendations as to whether more detail or smoother transitions are needed.
