There are four kinds of sentences according to purpose or meaning.

Declarative Sentence

  • States fact, a wish, or intent and ends with a period. (.)

  • Example

  • There is no substitute to the joy of reading good books.

  • asks a questions and ends with a question mark. (?)

  • Example:

  • Are you ready for a new adventure?

Imperative Sentence

  • expresses a command, a request, or gives suggestions or directions and ends with a period (.), or question mark (?).

  • Example:

    Have a one-of-a-kind adventure with them.

  • expresses a strong or sudden emotion and ends with an exclamation point. (?)

  • Example:

  • I can't wait to know how this ends!
