7

As we saw in yesterday's lesson:

Being afro-latinx is hard on both sides of the identity. People judge you because you're "not black enough" or "not latinx enough".

8

This is why Celia's self love and joy was so important.

People saw that it was good to love yourself, your WHOLE self. Not just one part of your identity.

9

THIS WAS HUGE!

She made a lasting impact on afro-latinx around the whole world with her joy, with her love, with her light.

10

Open Ended

It's important as we grow to acknowledge those who helped teach us to love ourselves. Who helped you love yourself the most? A family member? A teacher? A celebrity? A friend?

11

12

Open Ended

What do you notice about the way we see Celia in this music video? We see her through the years, through her youth and near the end of her life as well. What words would you use to describe the personality we see?

14

Lo que es bueno hoy

Quizás no lo sea mañana

He ahí el valor del momento

He ahí el presente perfecto

What is good today

Might not be tomorrow

There's the value of the moment

There is the perfect present

15

La oportunidad de llegar

Tú verás si te montas en ella

Agárrate fuerte

Y ya no te sueltes

The opportunity to arrive

You'll see if you hop on it

Hold on tight

Don't let go

16

Ríe, llora

Que a cada cuál le llega su hora

Ríe, llora

Vive tu vida y gózala toda

Laugh, cry

Everyone's time comes

Laugh, cry

Live your life and savor it all

17

Ríe, llora

Esta negrita no pasa de moda
