How do we form the Third conditional?

  • We have two parts (like every conditional) --> the condition (if) and the 'consequence'

  • Condition: if + past perfect (had) (If I had stayed at home)

  • Consequence: would/wouldn't have + past base form (I wouldn't have lost my wallet)

  • 'If I had stayed at home I wouldn't have lost my wallet'
