The myth of “Icarus and Daedalus” teaches readers and listeners that it is important to listen to the advice of parents or elders. This lesson is taught through the thoughts and actions of Icarus who repeatedly ignores his father’s warning to “never fly very low or very high.” Icarus is so enthralled with flying that he forgets “everything in the world but joy.” The higher Icarus flies, the more he forgets about his father’s warnings. In the end, Icarus flies too high, his wings melt, and he falls to his death. His fate reinforces the lesson that the advice of parents or elders is to be valued and followed.
