Writing About Themes!

Slide image

2

Our main lesson today is about theme...

  • What is theme, again? (In your own words)

3

One common definition for themes/thematic statements are that they're "the moral of the story"

4

I wanted to have some fun with that idea with today's main activity...

5

I'm going to give you a list of themes...and we are all going to write short "fables" or kid's stories that teach that lesson!

6

Then, once they are all written, we will guess what moral they were trying to teach!

7

You will get +3 class points if you successfully guess a theme, AND you will get +5 class points if someone successfully guesses YOUR story!

Any questions before we start?

8

Example: Theme - "Bees are terrible"

Mr. Robinson walked down the street and then a bee stung him in the nose. Mr. Robinson cried, and the bee could be heard laughing as it flew away, ready to cause another crime and ruin another day. "Bees...are...terrible..." Mr. Robinson said, clenching his hand into a fist like the Arthur fist meme.

9

Open Ended

Here's a list of themes! Have fun with your story! (At least four sentences)

"Humans are hurting the environment"

"Mr. Robinson is very popular"

"No one loves you more than family"

"Video games are a way to bring people together"

"People care too much about social media clout"

"People are naturally good and kind to each other"

OR...for extra points...come up with your own!
