10

What do they eat?

Grizzly bears are large omnivores. They can be found in some of the high ecosystems in the northern parts of the Rocky Mountains. These bears have adapted to a way of life that includes visiting the barren slopes of the mountains at an altitude of two miles. They actually do this to look for moths!

11

What do they eat?

Grizzlies are omnivores, meaning they eat both plants and animals. They are frequently primary consumers because a major part of their diet is berries, grasses, bark, and leaves. Occasionally, grizzlies will hunt prey, such as rodents, deer, or even moose. In coastal areas or along rivers, they may also eat fish.

12

How do grizzly bears learn how to survive?

Grizzly bear moms must teach their cubs how to survive. Wherever they live, cubs must learn how to behave, what to eat, and where to find food. Grizzly bear mothers learn from their mothers, then pass the teachings down to their cubs.

13

How do grizzly bears learn how to survive?

The grizzly's intelligence and ability to eat a variety of food has enabled it to adapt to a wide variety of ecosystems. Depending on where they are, grizzlies can eat berries, vegetation, fish, meat, carrion, and insects. They can be found in habitats ranging from treeless tundras to dense, old-growth forests to coastal sedge meadows.
