To find the purpose ask yourself; what am I supposed to learn from this?
The paragraph did not talk very much about bridges or very much about history. It DID talk about what happened in Ichiro's day.
The best answer is 1) to explain what happens in Ichiro's day.
7
Clues!
You might find clues in your reading to help you identify the purpose. If it mentions specific dates, places, and events, there's a good chance it is trying to inform you.
The best answer here is 1) to inform readers about a historical event.
8
Evidence!
You use evidence to determine the author's purpose.
Look at each answer, and think about them.
It is not 1; it does more than tell the answer to a joke.
It is not 2 either; it does MORE than explain why having fun is important.
The best answer is 3! It DOES give more than one idea on how to have fun.
