Possessive Adjectives

- Os  Possessive Adjectives são palavras que têm a função de modificar um substantivo indicando propriedade ou posse. Por exemplo, “This book is her book” (Este livro é o livro dela) o adjetivo possessivo “her” (dela) está especificando que o livro pertence a ela.

- São utilizados antes de substantivos.

Possessive Adjectives: examples

 My pen is new. (Minha caneta é nova.)

 His dog is black. (O cachorro dele é preto.)

 Her sister is an architect. (A irmã dela é arquiteta.)

 Our teacher is late. (Nosso professor está atrasado.)

Possessive Pronouns

- Os Possessive Pronouns indicam posse e são utilizados com o objetivo de substituir o substantivo contido na frase.

- Não é utilizado antes de substantivos. Geralmente os Possessive Pronouns vêm no final da frase. 

Possessive Pronouns: example

Example 1:

 Possessive Adjective: That is Paula's bag and this is my bag.

 Possessive Pronoun: That is Paula’s bag and this is mine.

Possessive Pronouns: example

Possessive Adjective: This is my cat and that is your cat.

Possessive Pronoun: This is my cat and that's yours.
