Let's Learn

Supposed there are 1800 learners enrolled in ALS Quezon City. Among them, 28% are girls. How many ALS learners are girls?

Let us Identify the rate, base and percentage in the problem.

  • The rate is the percent, or the number in a hundredth parts.

  • The base is the total, or the whole quantity.

  • The percentage is the fraction of the base determined by the rate.

  • Formula to get the rate or percent is

  • Rate = Percentage / Base X 100%

  • Remember this simple formula: P = R x B

The number of girls is 28% of 1800 ALS learners.

  • Given are the rate is 28% and base is 1800

  • We are looking for the percentage which is the number we are to find.

  • Using the P = R x B formula, P = 28% or 28/100 or 0.28 is the rate. We always convert the % to decimal form to be able to solve the problem.

  • To Solve: 0.28 x 1800 = 504

  • Answer: 504 out of 1800 ALS learners are girls.
