  • a pronoun that "reflects" the subject, but has a different grammatical job (e.g. direct object)

  • Ex. - Mr. Brownell pinches himself to see if he is dreaming.

  • Ex. - Mr. Brownell makes himself coffee. (indirect object)

  • an adjective or pronoun that "intensifies" or emphasizes the noun it refers to, like a verbal exclamation point

  • Ex. - I met the queen herself (!).

  • You would be able to understand the sentence's complete meaning without the intensive adjective, but adds emphasis
