Before a conjunction- for example: I love to eat cake, but my husband prefers pie

After a direct address- for example: a person's name. Good evening, Jack, I'm so glad you came.
Before direct quotes- for example: According to the author, "100,000 species of animals exist."
For dates, addresses, titles, and numbers- for example: 1315 Old Converse Road, Spartanburg, SC 20307
