Legal institutions of Conflict resolution pp41-43

Legal Institutions according to the Constitution

Qatar constitution states that society is based on the values of justice, charity, freedom and equality and that the state protects those values.

Law organises all that through legal and administrative institutions.

If there are any disputes, the following institutions operate to resolve them:

Judiciary Act of 2003

The judiciary Act was passed in 2003. It defines how all types of courts in Qatar perform.

Legal Institutions:

1. Court of First Instance

• Cases of doctrinal provisions

• Islamic Law criminal penalties

• Criminal cases

• Civil and commercial cases

• Personal status laws

• Estates and administrative disputes

2. Court of Appeal

• The Court of Appeal is responsible for deciding on the appeals filed against the sentences issued by the Higher Criminal, Civil Courts, and Administrative and Labour Courts, and comprises of three members.

3. Court of Cassation

• The Court of Cassation is the highest court in the Qatari judicial system. It is responsible for deciding on the appeals filed against the judgment issued from the Court of Appeal.
