  • presentation of these may vary depending on the importance of information

  • outlines of the same selection may vary according to what are thought to be by each individual

Two Kinds of Outline

  • Sentence Outline - use complete sentences

  • Topic Outline - use words or phrases

Example of Sentence Outline

  • The sentences in this type of outline should be complete sentences

  • Have a system of letters and numbers to organize your headings and subheadings

  • Align ideas of the same rank. As such, whenever there is a subheading, always indent that subheading to the right

  • There should be no single subheading

  • The grammar and the construction of the sentence outline should be consistent all throughout the outline

Example of Topic Outline

  • Use words or phrases

  • Have a system of letters and numbers to organize your headings and subheadings

  • Indent the headings properly

  • Each statement in the topic should start with a capital letter

  • For statements, the phrases should be grammatically parallel to each other
