What is a mixed conditional?

It's a mixture from the original conditionals and they can have two structures.

Present result of a past condition

This type of mixed conditional refers to an unreal past condition and its probable result in the present.

Past result of present or continuing condition

These mixed conditional sentences refer to an unreal present situation and its probable (but unreal) past result.

Structures:

• If + Past perfect -> Present conditional

• If + Simple past -> Perfect conditional

If + Past perfect -> Present conditional

• I she had finished early, she would be happy now.

• If they had won the match, we would be celebrating.

• Antonio would come today if he had gotten his boss permission.

Translate the following conditionals.

• Si ellos se hubiesen vuelto famosos, nosotros nunca los conoceríamos.

• Yo no podría estar haciendo esto si no hubiese tenido tu apoyo.

• Si ella hubiese escuchado tu consejo, no estaría en esta situación.

• Martha no estaría viva si ella hubiese comido ese pez en Japón.

If + Simple past -> Perfect conditional

• If I were a better player, I would have played as a professional.

• If you met her before, you would have been very close.

• Mark should have studied more if he wanted to pass that exam.

Translate the following sentences

• Si ella fuera más alta, habría jugado baloncesto en la secundaria.

• Ellos habrían ido a mi fiesta si ellos fueran mis amigos.

• Si Mario fuera valiente, habría entrado a ese castillo solo.

• El habría sido un gran capitán si fuera más fuerte.
