What is an Adverb?

An adverb is a word that describes or modify a verb, adjective, another adverb or even a whole sentence. Most of them ends in -ly, but some are exactly the same of the adjective that modifies.

Example:

Loud → Loudly

Frecuency adverbs generally follow forms of the verb be and precede all other verbs.

Example:

I'm usually at the pool on Saturdays.

I usually go to the pool on Saturdays.

5

Sometimes, usually, often, generally, and occasionally can also go at the beginning or the end of a sentence. Don't use the other frequency adverbs there.

Example:

Sometimes I go to the pool on Sundays.

I go to the pool often.

NOT* Never I go to the pool. OR I go to the pool never.

6

In negative sentences, most frequency adverbs can precede OR follow don't or doesn't.

Example:

Hank usually doesn't go running on the weekend.

Hank doesn't usually go running on the weekend.

7

But note that always CANNOT precede don't or doesn't.

Example:

I don't always have breakfast in the morning.

NOT I always don't have breakfast in the morning.

8

Don't use never with a negative verb. Use the frecuency adverb ever with negative verbs.

Example:

I never eat sweets. = I don't ever eat sweets.

NOT I don't never eat sweets
