Linus wants Sally to leave him alone.
Sally says that if he answers her question correctly, then she will leave him alone (for a day).

Linus knows there are 16 ounces in 1 pound.
2 lb= 2x16 = 32 oz
2 lb 6 oz= 32 oz and 6 oz= 32+6= 38 oz
