Poetry is everywhere--

let's find some!

You will need paper and a pencil.

Or you can open a document on your computer.

1. Choose a kingdom.

Which kingdom of life makes you curious?

Archaeobacteria? Eubacteria?

Protist?

Fungi? Animal, or plant?

Write the name of one kingdom in BOLD letters at the top of your paper.

2. Research.

Write three characteristics of your kingdom toward the top of your paper.

For example: What type of cells make up organisms in your kingdom? Where do organisms in your kingdom usually live? Are they single or multi-cellular organisms?

3. Choose an example.

Choose an organism from your kingdom. A species that intrigues you...

Write the name of that organism in your fanciest writing.

Example. If my kingdom is the FUNGUS KINGDOM, I might choose bread mold as my organism.

4. More research.

Spend the rest of class learning everything that you can about your organism (in my case, bread mold). Use books or the internet to find information. If you can, spend time observing your organism.

Write as many facts and observations as you can.

Want an example?

Two people were talking and then started to fuss.

About whether ice cream was made with lactobacillus.

They both got more angry and started to yell,

But then they calmed down and agreed that lactobacillus was a singular cell.

continued on the next slide....

13

Cont.

Things settled down even more and got less chaotic,

Because they also learned that it is prokaryotic.

By this time they started behaving like kin,

And because it was calm they learned that it needs oxygen.

The moral of the story is that people shouldn't fight,

We, like eubacteria, all need light.

Camden, fourth grade (eubacteria kingdom)

Another example....

This one is from the Animal Kingdom.
