Dr. Pio Valenzuela
Valenzuela’s pride, a physician and revolutionary leader, Dr. Pio Alejandrino Valenzuela was born on July 11, 1869. He joined Katipunan in 1892. Next, he left for Dapitan on June 15, 1896 to convince Dr. Jose Rizal to join Katipunan. When their society was discovered, he availed of the amnesty given by the Spanish government and surrendered on September 1, 1896.
Then, he was elected as the first mayor of Polo from 1899 to 1900. Furthermore, he also became the governor of Bulacan from 1921 to 1925. Lastly, Dr. Pio Valenzuela died on April 6, 1956. In 1963, the municipality of Polo was renamed Valenzuela in his honor.
