KFO:

I will be able to identify the following parts of speech within a sentence: noun, verb, article, adjective, and adverb using the Sentence Diagramming Strategy.

Parts of Speech Focus:

• Noun- Person, Place, or Things

• Verb- Action words

• Article- A, An, The

• Adjective- describes or modify a noun

• Adverb- describes or modify a verb

Identify the Parts of Speech

• Is the word a person, place or thing?- Noun

• What action is happening/happened?- Verb

• Does the word describe a noun or a verb?- Adjective or Adverb

• Is the word an article?- A, An, The

Diagram the subject and predicate.

• Write the subject and predicate on a line with a line between them.

• Subject part of the sentence that contains the noun.

• Predicate part of the sentence that contains the action.

Diagram the adjective, adverb, or article on a slanted line underneath the word it describes or modifies.
