10
Food
There's a lot we can say about what we EAT (and drink). How does it look, smell and taste?
11
Staff
Staff is the PEOPLE working at a place.
For example, at a restaurant, "staff" can mean chefs (people who cook dishes) and waiters / waitresses.
12
Decoration
When restaurants are decorated, they LOOK BETTER. We can decorate a restaurant with drawings, balloons, or even the trees you see here.
13

If a restaurant makes you WAIT for a seat or food, you're not going to be very happy.

The FOUR rules about writing a review
1. Write the name and information (e.g.where it is,
what food it sells) of restaurant first.
2. The date written shows readers when you wrote the review.
3. Star ratings to tell readers how good something is.
4. In the review, we make comments about the
restaurant - what we like or don't like.
22
Now, open Treasure Plus 1A. Turn to p.70.
23
Let's read p.70.
24
Now we've read p.70.
25
List of vocabulary on p.70
1. Jordan is a part of Kowloon near Tsim Sha Tsui.
2. When you greet someone, you welcome them.
3. We eat starters before we eat big dishes (e.g.soup before rice).
4. The portion of food is how big it is.
5. When something is savoury, it is not sweet, but salty.
(e.g.Chicken is savoury, but oranges are not.)
6. When something is bland, it does not have a strong taste.
(e.g.If the food is bland, it may not have enough salt in it.)
7. If you like something or someone, you recommend it.
(e.g.Mr. Choi is a fun teacher. We recommend him! >:D )
26
Let's learn three reading skills
before doing the exercise on p.71.
27
Skill 1: Reading the words before
the word we "refer to"
28
e.g.I like fried chicken but
I've had too much. It makes me full.
What does "it" refer to?
To answer this,
1. Get the part of speech
2. Check if it is singular (one) or plural (more than one)
3. Choose the most possible word as the answer.
29
e.g.I like fried chicken but
I've had too much. It makes me full.
1. "It" is a pronoun
2. "It" is singular
3. Can "It" be "I"? NO!
4. Can "It" be "fried chicken"?
30
e.g.I like fried chicken but
I've had too much. It makes me full.
"It" refers to "fried chicken".
31
Skill 2: Guessing the word(s)
32
e.g."Everything in the shop was pretty"
What is "pretty"?
33
e.g."Everything in the shop was pretty"
We can sometimes guess the word
from a paragraph's topic sentence / first sentence .
Here, the writer wrote she "fell in love with this restaurant".
WHY? Because of what?
34
e.g."Everything in the shop was pretty"
"I fell in love with this restaurant when I saw..."
see things -> love the restaurant
"everything... pretty" -> Is pretty a good word or bad then?
35
Skill 3: Guessing the reason
using "and" and "when"
36
When we want to find a reason and do not see the word "because",
we pay attention to words such as
"and" and "when".
37
"and" and "when"
e.g.1 The pizza is tasty and I love it.
e.g.2 I was happy when I saw the food.
I love the pizza because the pizza is tasty.
I was happy because I saw the food.
The words before "and"
and words after "when"
tell us reasons.
38
Let's do the exercise!
We will do questions 3 - 5 ONLINE.
