Independent VS Dependent
Independent Variables CAUSE the Dependent Variable to CHANGE
Remember...Cause VS Effect
Example: The amount of calories you burn DEPENDS on how many miles you run.
Independent: Miles ran
Dependent: Amount of calories burned
4
Multiple Choice
Identify the DEPENDENT variable in the situation:
The batches of cookies you will make
The amount of eggs you have
5
Multiple Choice
Identify the INDEPENDENT variable in the situation:
Your grade in math class
The effort you make in math class
6
Multiple Choice
Identify the dependent variable in the situation:
How far a car can travel
The amount of gas in the car
7
Multiple Choice
Identify the independent variable: The amount of money earned depends on the amount of hours worked
Amount of money earned
Amount of hours worked

Functions --> Equations from Tables
x is always the INPUT/INDEPENDENT variable
y is always the OUTPUT/DEPENDENT variable
11
How to find the equation from the table.
1. Look at your table and compare the x & y values to find a pattern.
2. Use the pattern to write a rule or equation for the table.
3. Use the rule to find the missing value in the table.
4. Using the rule, substitute the x-variable to find the missing value

Box & Whisker Plots
First you HAVE to list your numbers from LEAST to GREATEST
Lower Quartile (Q1) is the median of your lower set of numbers.
Median (Q2) is the Median of ALL numbers
Upper Quartile (Q3) is the median of your upper set of numbers.
Minimum (lower extreme) is the smallest number in the set, while Maximum (upper extreme) is the highest number in the set.
Interquartile Range is the DIFFERENCE of Q3 & Q2
19
How To's
Find the median of ALL numbers 1st.
If there are TWO numbers in the middle, find the sum and divide by 2.
We have to include these numbers in our lower & upper halves.
If there is only ONE number in the middle, that number is the median and we do NOT count it in the lower and upper halves.
20
Multiple Choice
Interquartile Range is
the difference between the third quartile and the first quartile
the difference between the greatest and least data values.
