Veamos un vídeo corto para introducir nuestro tópico.

The second clause describes the direct object in the first clause.

• If it is not known whether or not this kind of person, object, place or idea as described exists, we must use the subjunctive.

• If it is known that this kind of person, object, place or idea (as described) exists, we must use indicative.

Ejemplos

• Quiero una pizza que... tenga pulpo.

• Busco un restaurante donde... sirvan pulpo.

• ¿Tienen una pizza que... tenga pulpo?

• No hay una pizza que... tenga pulpo.

La diferencia...

The quote on the left indicates she knows Harold (whose parents are dwarves) and she wants to marry him.

The quote on the right indicates she doesn’t know such a person, but wants to meet and marry a man named Harold whose parents are dwarves.

Otro ejemplo...

Prefiero llevar el abrigo que tiene capucha (hood).   

●    Known object (it exists and we are referring to that object) - it is the coat that has a hood.

Prefiero llevar un abrigo que tenga capucha.

Unknown object (it might or might not exist

An adjective clause is joined to the first clause by a relative pronoun, such as...

• que (usually)

• donde

• cuando

Un ejemplo con el pronombre relativo "cuando"...

• No hay un día cuando los dos estemos disponibles (available), me parece.

• The object being described is "día".

• The sentence expresses negation.

Un ejemplo con el pronombre relativo "donde"...

• Necesitáis vivir en un lugar donde haya montañas para esquiar.

• The word being described is "lugar".

• The sentence expresses a recommendation.

• The recommended place is unknown.

Las preguntas cuando hay duda también usan el subjuntivo.

Cuando la frase con cláusula adjetiva es negativa, usamos el subjuntivo.

No hay una tienda que venda viajes a la luna.

No necesitas un jefe que sea joven.

The sentence negates the need for a young boss, so it requires subjunctive.
