T I M E

SECOND ELEMENT OF DANCE

* dancer cannot dance everything at once, the movement must be sequenced

* Time is the relationship of one movement or part of a movement to another

a. BEAT - THE ON GOING UNDERLYING PULSE

•Dancers count to keep in time with the music. It is important for the dancer to stay with the pulse of the music (beat).

b. TEMPO - HOW FAST OR SLOW THE MOVEMENTS.

* SPEED

( FAST - MEDIUM - SLOW )

c. ACCENT - STRONG BEATS THAT USUALLY OCCUR AT REGULAR INTERVALS

* EVEN = WALKING

*UNEVEN = SKIPPING

d. RHYTMIC PATTERS - MADE BY ARRANGING LONG AND SHORT MOVEMENT OR STRONG AND LIGHT MOVEMENT

* WITH MUSIC OR WITHOUT MUSIC

*WITH BREATH

e. DURATION - THE LENGTH OF TIME THE MOVEMENT LASTS.
