Subject + have + object + pp (-ed/3rd )

I have my eyes checked

Can you see the difference?

• I do my homework. (I do it myself)

• I have my homework done. (I pay someone to do it for me)

What is the difference?

• I paint my room every 3 years.

• I have my room painted every 3 years.

We also use the causative to say that something bad happened to us

• I had my smartphone stolen.

• I got my bike scratched.
