4
Meine Mutter ist das Subjekt.
Right, my mom is the subject, because she is doing the verb - she is doing the baking.
5
Was ist das Objekt?
The object (also known as the direct object) is what is being "verbed" by the subject. For example, what is being baked?
6

7
You know in German there are 3 different word genders:
der (masculine)
die (feminine)
das (neuter)
8
Multiple Choice
For example, what word gender is "nose" in German?
der Nase
die Nase
das Nase
9
Right: die Nase
It's feminine
10
Multiple Choice
What about "head" in German?
der Kopf
die Kopf
das Kopf
11
Right: der Kopf
It's masculine ( Hint: always learn the "der, die, das" with new words)
12
Multiple Choice
Was ist "knee" auf Deutsch?
der Knie
die Knie
das Knie
13
You've also learned to use "ein" with these words:
ein Kopf (masculine)
eine Nase (feminine)
ein Knie (neuter)
14
However, you notice that the masculine changes when it's the object of the sentence.
Meine Mutter bäckt einen Kuchen.
Ich esse den Kuchen.
Ich habe einen Kopf.
Hast du einen Bleistift?
15
Multiple Choice
What ending do the masculine articles (der, ein, mein) change to?
den / einen / meinen
die / eine / meine
das / ein / mein
16
Right: den / einen / meinen
We call this the "accusative case". When a word is the object of the sentence, then it is in the accusative case. If it's masculine it changes to "den" or "einen" or "meinen". (Basically, it gets an "-en" ending)
17

18
Gut!
Now the next one won't be masculine, so you don't need to worry about changing the ending, just make sure it's the right gender.

Now for some prepositions
21
Was ist ein Präposition?
A preposition is a word that starts a prepositional phrase and tells details like where, when, or in what way things are happening.
22
Here are some English examples:
under, over, at, for, against, between, through, beyond, with, without, until, along, near...
23
In German, there is a set of prepositions the use the accusative case:
durch - through
für - for
gegen - against
ohne - without
um - around / at (time)
bis - until
pro - per (an amount)
entlang - along/down (street)
