What we know = King George did not allow the colonists to settle on their land after the French and Indian war
WWK= The N.A's were angry that the colonists had taken their land to begin with
Early on in this war the N.A's tried not to take sides
But in 1777 the British had other ideas. They met with the leaders of the Iroquois tribe and joined forces.
Tribes that joined the British: Seneca, Cayuga, Mohawk, Onondaga
Why do you think the N.A's would join the side of the British?

Native American fighting style was totally different and George Washington took note of this.
Rather than stand in a line they would hide behind trees and such, attack, and disappear

SARATOGA
October 17, 1777
- The British planned to try to split apart the colonies they believed that the New England colonies were less loyal than the middle and southern colonies
- General Burgoyne traveled down from Canada cutting down trees to make roads.
-New York Militiamen attack "Indian style"
- Once Burgoyne reached Saratoga he was met by 6000 American soldiers
- After several days his only option was to surrender which means a WIN for the Americans!

This WIN was important!
The French saw this win as an opportunity to "pay back" the British for what happened in the last war
They became allies, helping the continental army to win freedom!
on February 1778 French soldiers and ships joined the fight!
