Resistivity

Resistivity is a measure of the resistance of a given size of a specific material to electrical conduction. Resistivity may also be referred to as the specific electrical resistance, or volume resistivity, although these terms are less widely used.

3

Resistivity

- The resistivity equation shows that:

- The longer the wire, the greater its resistance

- The thicker the wire, the smaller its resistance

Resistivity

  • Resistivity is a property that describes the extent to which a material opposes the flow of electric current through it.

  • Resistivity is measured in Ω m

  • It is a property of the material, and is dependent on temperature
