Prepositions of place

They tell us WHERE someone or something is located.

In

It tells us when someone or something is inside something.

Example:

1. My brother is in San Diego.

2. Her clothes are in the wardrobe.

3. She ate her delicious breakfast in the dining room.

4. I left my soccer ball in the car.

On

It tells us when someone or something is touching or attached to something.

Examples:

1. Please, sit down on your chair.

2. He had a big poster of his favorite band on the wall.

3. The food is on the table.

At

It shows the specific location of someone or something.

Examples:

1. My dad works at a bank.

2. Daniela bought these tomatoes at the supermarket.

3. He was at the golf club.

Next to

Show the position of two objects that are near.

Examples:

1. Robert's house is next to his best friend's house.

2. Hermione sits next to Ron.

3. My bedroom is next to the kitchen, how convenient!

In front (of) / behind

These words are opposites. Use "in front" when something or someone is at the front part. Use "behind" when something or someone is at the back.

1. The president gave a speech in front of thousands of people.

2. Our classroom is behind the cafeteria.

3. I think her backpack is in front of the door.

Activity

In your notebook, write 3 questions using "Where was/were...?" about the objects in the picture, then write the answers. Example:
