Perimeter
Perimeter is a measure of the distance around a regular object.
A regular object is any object that has straight edges.
3
The reason that we should learn how to calculate perimeter in real life is:
Perimeter helps you to visualize and quantify a certain physical space, for example putting up Christmas lights around the house. Putting up fencing in a backyard or measuring the boundaries of a football field.
These are just some example for learning to calculate perimeter.
4
An example of some objects that have straight edges are:
5
You can find the perimeter of any regular object with straight edges
To find the perimeter all we need to do is add up all of the sides of the regular object.
The formula for perimeter for a rgular qudrilateral is
P = L + W + L + W
6
Lets try one to see if we can find it's perimeter.
7
Find the perimeter
Our formula is P = L+W+L+W
Looking at the the figure I know that the length of the top is the same as the length on the bottom which is 5, and I know the width of one side is 5ft so the width of the other side is 5ft. so now I just replace my letters in the perimeter formula with numbers.
P = 5ft+5ft+5ft+5ft
P = 20ft
8
Let do one more then its your turn
once again I can see that the top of the figure is 5ft so because this is a rectangle the top is the same as the bottom so the bottom is the same as the top 5ft.
The widths are also the same in a rectangle which means that if one side is 3ft, the other side is the same.
Again I replace the letters in the perimeter formula P=L+W+L+W with the numbers.
So P= 5ft+3ft+5ft+3ft
P =16ft

Multiple Choice
When finding the perimeter I
divide all the sides
subtract all the sides
divide, add, and subtract all the sides
add all of the sides

To recap, perimeter is the distance around an object.
to find perimeter add up all the sides of the object
the formula for perimeter when the object is a regular qudrilateal such as a square or rectangle is P = L+W+L+W.
