Reflecting Shapes

When you reflect a shape across the x-axis, the x coordinate stays the same and the y coordinate gets reversed.

For example:

to reflect point (2,-4) across the x-axis, the x coordinate will stay at 2 and the y coordinate will be reversed to become positive 4 ---> (2,4)

Reflecting Shapes

When you reflect a shape across the y-axis, the y coordinate stays the same and the x coordinate gets reversed.

For example:

to reflect point (2,-4) across the y-axis, the y coordinate will stay at -4 and the x coordinate will be reversed to become negative 2 ---> (-2,-4)

Notice that all the x coordinates are the same when this shape is reflected over the x-axis and the y coordinates are opposite

This time, notice that all the y coordinates are the same when this shape is reflected over the y-axis and the x coordinates are opposite
