OA.2 - Division Review
Let's review our 4 ways to divide, and then complete practice problems!
2
What is division?
Division is when we take the TOTAL amount and BREAK IT APART into smaller groups
When something is evenly distributed, or broken part, you are dividing!
You can divide up money, food, shells, baseball cards, etc.
3
Equal Groups
Look at the divisor to know how many groups to make
Look at the dividend to know how much we need to divide
Divide the dividend by placing that number of dots into the circle
Count how many are in 1 circle to find the quotient
4
Arrays
Use the dividend for the number of items
Use the divisor to determine how many go in each row
Count the rows to determine the quotient
5
Repeated Subtraction
Subtract the divisor from the dividend
Subtract the divisor from that answer
Continue subtracting until you reach 0
Count how many times you subtracted to find the quotient
6
Using Multiplication
Look at the dividend and divisor
Think, "what times my divisor will equal my dividend?"
Consider your fact families to find the missing number
