Summer means swimming! Most kids love

spending hot days in the water. But not everyone knows how to stay safe around water.

3

Learning to swim is a good step to safety.

Some kids take swimming lessons. Others learn from family and friends. Knowing how to swim could save your life.

4

Even swimmers have to be careful around water. Never swim alone. Always have a buddy or, even better, an adult nearby. Don’t swim at beaches or lakes when there is no lifeguard on duty. Obey signs that tell about tides and currents. If you go on a boat, always wear a life jacket. Do this even if you know how to swim.

5

You can also be safe outside of the water.

Don’t run on slippery surfaces. Wear sunscreen to protect your skin. Drink enough water during the day.

These tips will help keep you safe and happy around water.
