Third person spelling rules.
1.Normally, verb infinitive + -s:
work- he works
write- he writes
2.If the infinitive ends in consonant
+ -y, the result is –ies:
study- he studies
try- she tries
BUT this does not happen if the
infinitive ends in vowel + -y:
play- he plays
