Subspecies

There are 9 subspecies of the tiger, The Bengal tiger, Indo Chinese tiger, Javan tiger, South China tiger, Siberian tiger, Caspian tiger, Sumatran tiger, Malayan tiger and Balinese tiger.

The Balinese, Javan and Caspian tigers are extinct.

White tigers

The white tigers you see here are not albinos! White tigers only live in captivity, that means in things like Wildlife reserves. White tigers were created by humans. A white tiger has no chance of surviving in the wild.

Tigers are carnivores, wich means they hunt other animals. The most known tiger is the Bengal tiger. A male Bengal tiger weights 220 kilograms and a female Bengal tiger weights 140 kilograms.

The scientific name of the tiger is "Panthera tigris". All tigers have different lifespans, the Bengal tiger can live up to 10 years in the wild, and up to 25 years in captivity, that means in zoos or Wildlife reserves.

• Tigers have from two to four cubs

• Tigers can swim rivers as long as seven kilometers, and might swim 29 kilometers per day patrolling their territory

• Tigers, unlike house cats, love water and might cool off in nearby streams.
