1 Energy giving food

2 Body building food

3 Protective food

7

Energy giving food

Carbohydrates and Fats provide us energy

sources of carbohydrates: potato, maize , rice, wheat etc.

Fats are obtained from oil, butter, ghee .

As compared to carbohydrates fats have more energy but energy derived from carbohydrates is instant ,therefore after a race we prefer to drink a glass of glucose instead of a spoonful of ghee.

Bodybuilding food

protein is essential for the growth and repair of worn-out cells and tissues. Children and pregnant women need more protein as compared to adults. Sources of protein include egg, milk, chicken fish, pulses, and soybeans. We should note that plant proteins are difficult to digest as compared to animal proteins. The deficiency of protein and carbohydrates together leads to PEM (protein energy malnutrition) In children diseases such as marasmus and kwashiorkor are caused due to PEM

Protective food

1. Vitamins

Vitamins and minerals are called protective food as they protect our body against several diseases.

Vitamin A.....night blindness

Vitamin B....beriberi

Vitamin C... Survey

Vitamin D.... rickets

Vitamin E... baldness

Vitamin K.... problem in blood clotting

Iron ...anemia

iodine.... goiter

Though our body needs vitamins and minerals in very nominal quantity still their absence for a prolonged period of time can cause above mentioned diseases. Green leafy vegetables, fresh seasonal fruits and occasional seafood will cater our needs
